When delegates register for our conference they will be able to select workshop rotations and case challenge topics that fit their interests to make our conference uniquely their own.

An overview of the types of experiences that make up our Breakout Session are the following:


 
Case Challenges

Speaker-led activities where delegates are split into pre-assigned teams to come up with a feasible solution to specific healthcare problems after a brief seminar on the topic.

Impact of Evolutionary biology

Dr. Robert Colautti is a professor and researcher at Queen's University within the Department of Biology. His work spans various methodologies, encompassing genomics, computation, and statistical analysis. Dr. Colautti's research interests encompass crucial areas like Lyme disease, COVID-19 studies, and evolutionary biology, aiming to unravel complex biological phenomena through an integrative scientific lens. His diverse methodological toolkit allows him to explore multifaceted issues within these fields, contributing significantly to advancing scientific knowledge and discovery.

Optimizing IBD Treatment

Peyton, a dedicated master’s student in biomedical informatics, actively engaged in Dr. Daniel Mulder’s lab at KGH, delving into patient data to develop a predictive machine learning model specifically tailored to assess inflammatory bowel disease activity in local patients. Her work aims to leverage cutting-edge technology and data analytics to enhance patient care by accurately predicting disease activity and optimizing treatment strategies.

Entrepreneurial Ecosystems in Healthcare

Bruna Guarino Moraes serves as the Program Coordinator for the Dunin-Deshpande Queen's Innovation Centre. With a fervent passion for entrepreneurship, Bruna actively contributes to fostering a diverse array of entrepreneurial initiatives. Her dedication lies in supporting and nurturing budding entrepreneurs, guiding them through the process of innovation and facilitating the development of impactful ventures within the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Neurodivergence, Advocacy and Understanding

Krista Carvin (formerly Carlin) is a dedicated Registered Social Worker (RSW) in Ontario, Canada. With a passion for mental health advocacy, she serves as the Founding Director of The Curious Collective, a pioneering virtual psychotherapy practice. The focus of her practice is on neurodivergence, particularly specializing in Adult ADHD. Krista's commitment to providing tailored support and therapy for individuals with ADHD emphasizes her dedication to promoting understanding and well-being within the neurodivergent community.


Community Healthcare Objectives

Dr. Veronica Legnini, a dedicated family physician in Kingston, ON, and the Acting Associate Lead Physician in the Family Health Organization, is fervently advocating to bolster local healthcare support. Her passionate advocacy focuses on urging all levels of government to prioritize and enhance physician supply and attachment in the community. Legnini's efforts aim to improve access to quality healthcare services for all residents by addressing the pressing need for increased physician presence and accessibility within the local healthcare system.

Aging and Health among Older Adults

Madison is in her final year as a PhD student (ABD) in the Health Quality Programs at Queen’s University. She currently works full time as a Research Coordinator for the Centre of Studies in Aging and Health at Providence Care, and part-time as a Teaching Adjunct in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies. Her current research focuses on exploring the experience of loneliness and depression for spouses separated in Ontario LTC facilities using a participatory action research approach.
